Independent project: My Queen Anne

Main Idea

This is a Queen Anne house that were popular from 1890 to 1915. You can tell it is a Queen Anne from the portico and the patterned roof shingles. It is hipped with cross gables in a steep pitch. The windows are blank lower pane with patterned pane above. The porch supporters are turned spindles to decorate the house. The walling is wainscoting and the floor is darkwood.

Queen Anne houses usually sell for $240,000 to $500,000 with additional costs for repairs because it is hard to maintain an old house. The term inaccurately implies aesthetic ideas from the reign of Queen Anne. However, its language was actually based on much earlier English buildings, mainly those constructed during the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras. These houses have historical meaning that needs to be kept alive.

Statement

The main idea for my artwork was to design my own Queen Anne and show my level of understanding of its style. 5 components of my planning/process journal were: to create a house, following the different main styles, have in proportion, finding the right material and study aspects of architectural design to communicate ideas. I was able to achieve in building a house even if it is miniature. I want to become an architect so this is the right step in the direction. What I could have done better was the hot glue and certain details like the porch. What I could do better was to try to control the glue more and paint all my boards at the same time so the colours are the same. The porch did not have that much detail in the porch supports (pillars).  What mostly went well was my hexagon room with my mannequin. The colour choice went well together like the white and the blue. Something that you should know is that this project was very ambitious of me. It took a lot of my time and even for the things that you find simple because you need to make decisions that can change the style in different ways. It is not as simple as it seems.

Influences

My influences are my family and my friends. They are what makes me being me. I would have given up on my dreams if it wasn’t for my family. They take me to places to experience new scenery and learn new architectural styles. They help me in anyway they can to help me keep going. They are my main supporters and this home represents them. It is not perfect but it is still somewhere we can call home.

Two of my inspired artist would be Frank Lloyd Wright and Zaha Hadid. Frank Lloyd Wright brought prairie style alive and introduced amazing architecture like Fallingwater, Pennsylvania or Imperial Hotel, Tokyo. Zaha Hadid game me hope that it is possible for girls to become architects and be noticed in the architect world. There are more females that go into architecture then actually becoming an architect. I want to become a historic preservation architect.
